Sea of Inspiration

6. Town, Sea, Earth

Aomi's trackRed Line: Aomi's track on the vast ocean (more than 70% of Earth's surface).

・Where does your daily food come from?

dayly meals

Your mother?
The fridge?
Restaurants?
Supermarket shelves?
People who transport it by truck or cargo ship?
Farmers?
Earth?

Earth and the
 Sun

Ultimately, it all comes from Earth. Our food—and even the tools we use in daily life—are gifts from Earth and the Sun.

・Where do you live?

from Home to Earth

Inside your home?
In a city?
In your country?
On land?
On Earth?

・Can you only imagine what you've seen or experienced? Is it difficult to truly feel and realize the presence of something with your heart—if you've never seen it?

You can easily visualize your house or your town, including the supermarket shelves where your food is sold. But beyond that? Perhaps not.

Anything beyond that might feel almost nonexistent.

The truth is, there's a vast world beyond your town—beyond what you see—that provides the food you eat and supports your life. Yet, we rarely feel its existence.

World_human_population_density_map

This map shows the global population distribution in 2020. Notice the vast areas of pale pink, representing regions with fewer than 0.5 people per square kilometer—essentially uninhabited. It's estimated that built-up areas (cities, towns, villages, and human infrastructure) occupy less than 2% of Earth's land. (https://ourworldindata.org/how-urban-is-the-world?)

Beyond them lie expansive landmasses—and even more immense oceans.

Rain comes from the Sea

Seventy percent of Earth's surface is ocean. Moisture evaporates from the sea and falls on land as rain, nourishing our crops—and us.

Do you have a mental model or image of "planet Earth" in your mind?

Using that model or image, can you simulate how our daily activities might affect the planet?

Can you imagine our future as people living on Earth?

Best wishes to you all, from the sailboat Aomi.
